STEP 2: CLEANING YOUR MATTRESS
Accidents happen and things naturally get dirty over time, However, the biggest issue with mattress hygiene is typically dust mites. As you spend about eight hours in bed per night, you will also shed dead skin cells. As unpleasant as it sounds, dust mites feed on these which attracts them to your mattress. The best way to remove dust mites is by using a vacuum with a hose attachment.
Practice washing your beddings and vacuuming the mattress simultaneously, which will help to keep your sleeping environment allergen-free.
If you need to clean a stain or a spill, use some cold water and mild soap on the area. Apply it gently and be careful not to let any of the water soak into the mattress. You also want to avoid using dry cleaning agents to clean your mattress. The chemicals could damage the materials in your Sealy.
STEP 3: PROTECTING YOUR MATTRESS
Sealy recommends a mattress protector to be used on top of the mattress. The protector helps to protect against bed bugs, dirt, and allergens while having cooling properties.
Regardless of whether you choose a simple, fitted, padded, and luxurious or a combination mattress protector, ultimately, the most important thing is that your mattress need is a mattress protector!
STEP 4: ROTATE YOUR MATTRESS
In order to provide adequate comfort, your Sealy may come with various layers of spring, padding and foam. As you lay on the mattress, a body signature will start to form in the place where you sleep. To prevent these impressions from forming too quickly, we suggest rotating your mattress frequently to maintain an even amount of wear across the mattress surface. To do so, just turn it 180 degrees anti-clockwise, then realign the mattress with the foundation.
How often should you turn your mattress?
This depends on various factors, but the general rule of thumb is once about every three months. This, done particularly in the early stages of your mattress, will allow it to have even wear and last longer.
First 3 months – rotate every 2 weeks
Continue to rotate once every 3 months
Improper handling of your mattress will expose it to danger and a potential injury risk for the owner.
Never move a mattress alone. It takes two people to safely move it and always carry it on its side. When moving a mattress through a door or around a corner, do not bend it beyond 15°. A mattress can flex, but bending causes damage to the innerspring.
If a mattress has handles, they are not there for carrying. They are designed for rotating the mattress.
INSTALL A PROPER BED BASE OR BED FRAME
A good foundation for the mattress is important to keep it in good shape. If the foundation is in poor condition or incorrectly set, it will not provide the mattress with the support that it needs, and this will shorten the life of the mattress.
For this reason, when you get a new mattress, consider a new bed base too. Some Sealy Posturepedic mattresses are designed to work best with a Sealy base as they absorb shock. So to extend the life of your mattress, match it with a Sealy base.
OTHER MATTRESS TIPS
- Do not remove the production label attached to the end of your mattress. This contains important care information, and they can be used to identify the mattress in the event that you need warranty service.
- Don’t stand on the mattress or jump on the bed. This may seem fun, but it can cause damage.
- When you get a new mattress, remove all of the packaging and air out your mattress before you put your mattress protector and sheets on. A new mattress may have a sort of “new mattress” smell to it, and that can last for a few weeks.
Now that you know all of the necessary steps to care for your Sealy, here’s ensuring the long life of your mattress.
